My inspiration comes from my surroundings. Often I do impressions of scenes or experiences that are particularly significant to me. An interesting person, animal, or place may inspire an entire work. I use low-fire glazes because the brilliant colors communicate an expressive intention which cannot be achieved with high-fire glazes. I usually work large because it conveys what I want to say most effectively. Depending upon the subject matter, however, I also do small pieces.
Through a grove of bamboo we see a brilliant orange-yellow sunset over the deep blue Pacific. 11"x17" mounted on wood. In the collection of Todd and Goy Banks.

In this scene we see an infusion of energy as four bicyclers ride toward you with a sense of purpose. Approximately 7"x11" mounted on wood.

A classic oriental design. White lotus emerging from a emerald green background. Free-form and mounted on wood, approximately 24"x34."

A pair of hummers hover over a bird of paradise. 12"x12" round, mounted on wood.

Iris frieze in shades of purple and yellow with dark pointed leaves. In the artist's collection. Approximately 8 "1/4x27" mounted on wood.

I sent a photo of this work to CBS' "Sunday Morning" several years ago. It has aired several times. Just recently, in fact, I saw it between a story on The Little Prince and George Gershwin." This is a free-form wall hanging.
