Large Murals

When a client comes to me with a request for a mural, they often have only a vague idea of subject matter or color. We often work together to decide on the size, location, and color scheme of the final work. Here are some examples of large mural installations, both commercial and residential.

These clients live near the Tropical Fish gate and had walked by it every morning for several years. They surf and travel and live atop a hill overlooking the ocean. We finally made a connection after a serendipitous meeting at a local gallery. What the clients loved about the Tropical Fish was that it is three dimensional and free-form. This sea turtle was installed on the front of their home. They were so pleased that they installed a spotlight so you can see it from a distance down their street.

In 1982, this Triptych (each panel is 1 1/2 by 4 feet)" was part of an exhibit at the Ocean Song Gallery in Del Mar, California. I purposely chose to make the hibiscus larger than life growing up through bamboo. Each panel is framed in Koa wood. A good friend and client purchased the three panels after seeing them displayed in Ocean Song's front window. She hung the three panels in her patio and then brought them into her second home when she moved.

An early morning where the ocean is deep crystal blue and the air sweet with native flowers. Two friends share a peaceful moment on a quiet beach overlooking a tropical sky. Commissioned for a private residence in Hawaii.

An open flower framed in a textured mauve and blue orchid backdrop. In the collection of Nancy Hayward of Vista, California.

An abstract of fish within a fish. I had fun playing with shapes and color to design this mural. This 3'x5' free-form mural hangs on the wall like a painting.

Oversized hibiscus and colorful toucans make this small mural a vivid and whimsical work. Design in bas-relief. 16"x24" mounted on wood.

These works were created to hang as a set. Each urn is textured with bas-relief. I used a matte-textured background with grey green, pink and other gloss glazes for defining the forms. Each work is 28"x32".
